CDL A ELDT covers 30 FMCSA-required curriculum units including combination vehicle operation, coupling and uncoupling, and tractor-trailer specific topics — required for first-time Class A CDL applicants. CDL B ELDT covers 29 FMCSA-required units focused on straight trucks, buses, and large single-unit vehicles — required for first-time Class B applicants. Both are completed online and auto-submitted to the FMCSA TPR.
Does the Permit Prep replace ELDT?
No. The CDL-A Permit Prep course helps you pass the three DMV knowledge tests required for your Commercial Learner's Permit — it is not submitted to the FMCSA TPR and does not fulfill the ELDT requirement. Do I need BTW training in addition to this bundle?

Both theory ELDT and BTW training are required for first-time CDL A and CDL B applicants. Search for registered BTW providers at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
